AI gateways at Apidays Paris

I was at Apidays Paris 2025 last week, and I focused a lot on sessions on AI gateways. I counted at least eight talks on AI gateways across different tracks, so I can say AI gateways were definitely a theme at the conference. And one talk I want to mention particularly was by Gartner’s Mark O’Neil.

In his keynote session, Mark mentioned that Gartner had seen a massive increase in client enquiries about AI gateways in 2025. He also mentioned that AI gateways were now on the Gartner Hype Cycle, in the “Innovation Trigger” phase. Here is a photo I took of Mark’s slide.

I counted seven vendors that gave talks and demos around their AI gateway offerings. The AI and MCP gateway space is rapidly evolving and it can be difficult to make sense of all the different vendors and their offerings. I am working on a research report in this regard, titled “The AI Gateway Landscape: A Competitive Analysis of AI & MCP Gateways for Runtime Security and Cost Management“. It includes a detailed feature comparisons of AI and MCP gateway vendors, based on my IGT-AI framework for evaluating gateway security and privacy controls, cost management, and operational resilience.  Do get in touch via email, if you are interested in this report.
