I am running a research project called “Beyond the Linter”. The project explores how organisations actually run the people-and-process side of API governance. I am not focusing on tooling, but rather the operating model side – who makes governance decisions, how ownership of APIs and their lifecycle works across teams, and how API consumer feedback reaches the domain/feature teams.

I am looking for 20 people to take part in a 30-minute Zoom or Teams conversation on the research questions. I want your honest experience from what you see working or not working in practice. I’ll send you the questions ahead of time so you can think through your answers before we speak.

I am running the conversations through April 2026, and I will close the survey once I have 20 participants.

Who I’m looking for

The survey will work best if you have visibility into how API governance operates across teams in your organisation. That is, not just of a particular team’s practices. You would be a good fit if you:

  • Set or own API governance standards, policies, or architecture

  • Lead, manage, or have oversight of teams that build APIs and operate within governance processes

  • Run an API platform team that supports governance tooling and infrastructure

If you work with APIs but don’t have direct visibility into how governance decisions get made across the organisation, this survey is probably not the right fit for you. But I may want to have your perspective in future research.

What you’ll get

All participants will receive the full findings report, including how your governance approach compares to the other organisations in the study. In my consulting work, I have found that walking through these questions often surfaces things people know intuitively but haven’t articulated, so the conversation itself tends to be useful to them.

What happens to your responses

Apart from providing you with the insights, I will also be using them in conference talks and podcast episodes I am producing this year. Of course, all responses are anonymised by default.

Are you interested?

Fill this form, and I’ll reach out to you to schedule a time that works for a Zoom or Teams call. Spots are limited to 20 and once they are filled, I’ll close the survey.
